Fatih Municipality hosted the breathtaking final competitions of the two-day Inter-university Turkish Championship Fetih SporFest.
Fetih SporFest, organized in cooperation with Fatih Municipality and Turkish University Sports Federation (TUSF), was held at the Fatih Municipality Canoe and Rowing Sports Center in the Golden Horn with the participation of 594 athletes from 35 universities. In addition to Fatih Mayor M. Ergün Turan, the festival was attended by the Chairman of Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) Justice Commission Abdullah Güler, many university students, athletes and citizens. In the festival, which lasted for 2 days, there was a brisk competition in 6 different branches, and the athletes competed in running, archery, rowing, dragon boat, canoe and sailing races, both individually and as a team.
At the Inter-University Turkey Championship Award Ceremony held at the end of the festival, the athletes who won awards in various branches were congratulated by Fatih Mayor M. Ergün Turan and the Chairman of Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) Justice Commission Abdullah Güler.
“THE GOLDEN HORN IS A HIDDEN TREASURE FOR WATER SPORTS”
Speaking at the award ceremony, Mayor Turan said: “This is the first time we have carried out an interuniversity activity at this level here. For water sports, especially the Golden Horn region is a hidden treasure in Istanbul and its potential has not yet been fully discovered. As someone who has worked in the field of youth and sports, I know that it is not possible to develop sports and sports activities without the necessary facilities. Here, of course, we have always had the Golden Horn, but even if it is small, we would not be able to carry out these activities without this facility. Of course, in addition to the facility itself, the thing that makes this place beautiful is the young people coming from all over Turkey. If Allah permits, I hope that we will make this organization a tradition together with our federation in the upcoming years. We have gathered here alltogether on the anniversary of the conquest. Once again, I offer my heartfelt congratulations to you all.” After the speeches, trophies and awards were presented to the winning teams.
